Prerequisites: Advanced Open Water Diver or equivalent and and have completed CPR and First Aid training within the past 24 months.(Ask us about our Emergency First Response courses if you need this!)

What to expect on your course

Before the course - Complete your eLearning

When you sign up, you'll receive an email from PADI with access to your online learning materials. The PADI Rescue Diver eLearning covers five main sections: The Psychology of Rescue, Emergency Management, Rescue Equipment, Handling Diver Emergencies and First Aid for Dive Injuries. With e-learning, you can study at your own pace, right from the comfort of your couch, using our digital classroom.

While smartphones work fine, a computer or tablet with a larger screen will enhance your learning experience. You'll need to complete all the knowledge development sections and the final exam before we hit the water. If you encounter any issues or need assistance, just give us a call—we're here to help!

Day 1 - Off the Beach: Rescue Exercises 1-6 and Scenario 1

Get ready for an epic and action-packed start to your training! We kick off Day 1 bright and early, meeting at the dive shop at 8 am. Then, it's off to the beach for a full day of hands-on shore diving. You will master Rescue Exercises 1 through 6, learning essential techniques like assisting tired and panicked divers, responding from shore, and navigating underwater search patterns for missing divers. Once you've honed these skills, we'll put it all together in Scenario 1. Day 1 is all about perfecting your emergency responses, gaining confidence, and having a blast while learning to look out for others!

Matauri Bay or Putataua is the beach where we typically shore dive. This site provides an amazing and calm environment to safely practice your rescue techniques. The water temperature ranges from 16c in the winter to a lovely 22c in the summer time.

Day 2 - Off the Boat: Rescue Exercises 7-10 and Scenario 2

Day 2 takes the adventure to a whole new level as we head out on our boat, Rika Maru. Today, you will conduct Rescue Exercises 7 through 10, which focus on rescuing unresponsive divers at the surface and underwater, exiting an unresponsive diver, and practicing first aid and oxygen administration. After mastering these advanced techniques, we will put everything you've learned over the weekend to the ultimate test in Scenario 2!

The day is packed with realistic simulations and fun, ensuring you leave as a competent Rescue Diver. The journey is just as exciting—it's a quick ride to our sites on our boat. Don't forget to bring lunch and water, and get ready for a challenging but unforgettable day on the water!

Important Information

Age: The minimum age is 12 for this PADI Diver Course (Junior Rescue Diver).

Medical History: All Divers are required to complete an PADI Medical Form. This form is valid for 12 month. Please complete Medical & liability Forms here.

Equipment:

All you need is your own mask and snorkel—we’ll provide everything else! You’ll be fully equipped with a 7mm Beuchat wetsuit, Scubapro fins, weight belt, boots, Aqualung & Scubapro BCD, regulators, and dive computers. For added comfort, we recommend investing in your own gear.
