What to expect on your course
Before the course - Complete your eLearning
When you sign up, you'll receive an email from PADI with access to your online learning materials. The PADI Equipment Specialist eLearning takes you on a deep dive into how scuba gear functions. You’ll look at standard configurations, learn how regulators manage high cylinder pressures, understand dive computer algorithms, and explore the properties of different exposure suits. With e-learning, you can study at your own pace from the comfort of your couch. While smartphones work fine, a computer or tablet with a larger screen will enhance your learning experience.
You'll need to complete all the knowledge development sections before coming into the shop. If you encounter any issues or need assistance, just give us a call—we're here to help!
The Practical Workshop - Hands-on Maintenance and Care
Because this specialty focuses completely on the mechanics and upkeep of your kit, there are no required scuba dives! We meet at the dive shop for a fully hands-on workshop designed to make you self-sufficient when minor issues occur at the beach or out on the boat.
Your instructor will show you how to inspect your gear like a pro. You'll learn how to identify early signs of wear, test a BCD for hidden leaks, replace complex valve O-rings, and safely manage basic field adjustments. We will also look inside an overhauled regulator and talk about the professional servicing process. We highly encourage you to bring your own personal regulator, BCD, and accessories to class—your instructor will help you optimize your exact configuration and show you customized cleaning and storage tips to ensure your kit lasts for years to come.
